Like most municipalities, you probably have some publicly staffed boards and commissions. You also probably have more vacancies on those boards than you’d like to admit. Getting the public involved and applying for those vacancies is something you’d love to see but the resources to make that a priority are scarce.
With Granicus’ Legislative Management suite this process becomes easy for you and highly visible to your citizens. Just by keeping up with your normal administrative routines, this solution will add a vacancy record to your web page. All you have to do is indicate a position is vacant in the administration section of the suite, then it does the rest for you.
Check out Long Beach’s implementation. You can see the vacancies column on the right side of the page,
that way interested citizens can find places entirely on their own to help out.
As well as being advertised on your Legislative Bodies page, constituents will also see a vacancy record on your Office Member screen. This screen will list out the various offices that are seeking new members. Here’s how Milwaukee is doing it, just click on the first row that says “VACANCIES”.
An optional feature is online applications. Once a member of the public identifies a vacancy they are interested in, they can simply click on the ‘Apply’ link on the ‘People’ tab and fill out a simple web form. This form gives them an option to upload a resume. It can also include a document to download, sign, scan and resubmit.
Once an application has been submitted it will be sent by email to an address of your choosing. As you know, inspiring public involvement can be a challenging task. Making the opportunities more easily accessible for the public makes you and your government more effective.
