My first blog on the Granicus Unified Encoder gave a high-level overview of what it is and what you get. In this post, I wanted to take a deeper look at what this new Hardware as a Service (HaaS) approach Granicus is taking means to you as an IT/IS stakeholder.
Renting vs. Owning
In the HaaS model, you rent the encoder from us rather than buy it outright. This both lowers your initial cost and removes the maintenance burden that comes along with ownership.

Sparks, NV ran into a roadblock in mid-2010 when their public access station suddenly went out of business. The station was responsible for recording and broadcasting public meetings on TV and the Web. The city scrambled to move all of the equipment over to City Hall, set it up, and try to get their proceedings out to the public.
